Contact Information

Ofgem will need to contact the property owner to verify that they consent to this application.

It’s important to note that requesting this contact information falls within Ofgem’s remit as the scheme administrator.

Ensure this information is identical to that shown on an official document, such as your passport or driving licence. If the property has multiple owners, give details of any owner that can represent the others.
This is the address of the property where the installation is taking place.
Ofgem will need this to run identity checks on the property owner. Please ensure the home address is the property owner currently lives. If the property is an eligible self-build, it’s unlikely that this will be the same home address that we need to run our checks against.
This number must be used in all correspondence with BUS
This e-mail address must be used in all correspondence with BUS.
Can you consent via an Email link? *If the property owner does not have an email address and cannot go online to give their consent, Ofgem will have to confirm their consent in writing, using paper forms.
Will consent need to be given in Welsh / Cymraeg? *If the property owner needs to communicate in Welsh, Ofgem may have to confirm their consent in writing, using paper forms.

BUS Questions

Proving Your Property is an Eligible Self-Build

To confirm your property qualifies as a self-build, please provide evidence from the list below.

You are not required to submit every item listed, but the more evidence you can provide means the application process is easier.

Acceptable evidence includes:

  • Proof you own the property – for example, a copy of the title deeds or the contract of sale
  • Proof of self-build financing – documents showing you received a self-build VAT exemption, self-build loan, or self-build mortgage
  • An invoice for major structural work – such as foundations or a timber frame (note: invoices for smaller jobs like re-wiring or kitchen fitting won't be accepted)
  • Self-build insurance documents
  • Planning permission documents
  • Invoices and/or contracts with your builders or tradespeople

Please note: Do not send bank statements with your application.
If these are needed, OFGEM will contact you directly to request them.

Is the property on the Gas Grid? *This means the property is connected to mains gas. A capped gas supply, or gas being available in the road, still counts as being on the gas grid according to Ofgem. Being off the gas grid is only a requirement for biomass, oil, and LPG heating systems to qualify for the £9,000 Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) grant, available until March 2027. Ofgem requires this information for all heating types for monitoring purposes, regardless of eligibility.
What type of heating will be installed? *
Will the property be used for Social Housing? *This scheme defines social housing as any rental or owned accommodation that's provided at lower than market value to people that could not have afforded it otherwise. It includes shared equity and shared ownership arrangements, and shared ownership trusts.

Please note, as the property will be used for social housing, we are unable to submit a BUS Application on your behalf.
