Welcome to the BUS Application Form for Retrofit & Self-Build Properties

To verify your BUS application with Ofgem, please complete the property owner's details below.

Our team will review your submission and contact you if any further information is required.

Fields marked with an asterisk (*) are required.

This can be found in the covering email from Spire Renewables. It will help to validate and identify your submission.

Contact Information

Ofgem will need to contact the property owner to verify that they consent to this application.

It’s important to note that requesting this contact information falls within Ofgem’s remit as the scheme administrator.

Property Ownership *
If the property has multiple owners, give details of any owner that can represent the others.
On behalf of the organisation, please provide details of anyone who can legally represent it (Director, Company Secretary etc.)
Ofgem will need this to run identity checks on the property owner. Please ensure the home address is the property owner currently lives. If the property is an eligible self-build, it’s unlikely that this will be the same home address that we need to run our checks against.
This number must be used in all correspondence with BUS.
This e-mail address must be used in all correspondence with BUS.

BUS Questions

Fields marked with an asterisk (*) are required.

What type of heating will be installed? *
Is the property on the Gas Grid? *This means it’s connected to mains gas. If the gas supply is capped, Ofgem still consider this to be on the gas grid or if available in the road. The requirement to be off the gas grid only applies to biomass boilers, however Ofgem need this information for all heating types for monitoring purposes.
Will the property be used for Social Housing? *This scheme defines social housing as any rental or owned accommodation that's provided at lower than market value to people that could not have afforded it otherwise. It includes shared equity and shared ownership arrangements, and shared ownership trusts.

Please note, as the property will be used for social housing, we are unable to submit a BUS Application on your behalf.

Is the property a New Build? *This means the property will only start being used or occupied after the new heat pump is commissioned.
Is the property an 'Eligible' Self-Build? *This means it must never have been owned by a business or organisation, or have been built mainly using the labour or resources of the first owner
Does the property have a valid EPC? *

Where a property is not an eligible new build, we will check that the latest EPC number is valid and was issued within the last 10 years.

You can find your EPC at: https://www.gov.uk/find-energy-certificate

If you do not have a valid EPC, you may instead provide the following documentation:

  • Your most recent bill or receipt for the fossil fuel heating system being replaced
    Valid utility bills must:
    - be dated within the last 3 months
    - include all pages or show the property's energy demand with usage figures (such as kWh consumption) and the supply types
    - show the installation address
  • Photographs of the previous heating system in situ (required)
    Valid photos must show the:
    - heat source, for example a boiler
    - make and model of the heat source

Additional supporting evidence may also include:

  • A decommissioning certificate
  • Confirmation that the gas supply has been capped
For commercial properties, enter the CEPC report reference number.

What is the primary fuel type that the new heat pump will be replacing? *
Can you consent via an Email link? *If the property owner does not have an email address and cannot go online to give their consent, Ofgem will have to confirm their consent in writing, using paper forms.
Will consent need to be given in Welsh / Cymraeg? *If the property owner needs to communicate in Welsh, Ofgem may have to confirm their consent in writing, using paper forms.
